Christmas Family Tour: Panama

Panama was our next stop, our camera man was not able to accompany us so I have very few pictures of this leg of the tour. Still many special moments to record.  We got to spend time with Aunt Deni, Andrea, Max and Lucienne at Las Cumbres.

This is yours and Maxis first ride on bumper cars.

You all loved it and went twice!

We also spent time with Tia Neili and her threesome Isa, Bernie and Giancarlo. They have all grown so much since we last saw them and I was so happy you got to see them all.

Time with Enri is always a pleasure, who is loving playing with cars and things that go round and round.

There is a new dog at Las Cumbres, a Boxer named Magna (you called him Magdac) and you quickly got into the habit of giving him and Blanco a morning snack. At first you kind of just threw it at them but slowly worked your way up to giving it to them in their mouths.  You really like dogs and I often find myself on the brink of caving in and getting you one, but just as often I am brought back from that edge by your Dads reality checks :o)

This visit you got the chance to take the periquito out of his cage and hang out with him for some hours in the mornings.
You got a huge kick out of it.

We had a wonderful time in Panama you got your share of play fighting with Tio Qco, spent time with the Mendez Amado and the Rodriguez Moreira at their homes, went to McD for some fries with Tia Judy and got your first heirloom from Yolibu - a lovely Xmas Carrousel!

I love that we get the chance to be with our extended family face to face. For me these are interactions that are affirming. They provide a sense of support and an identity based on both what is shared among us and what is unique about each of us.

All in all a great week!

Christmas Family Tour: Costa Rica

The last leg was in your beloved Costa Rica where we spent Xmas with the Rodriguez family

Check out the nail salon Tia Nena got you.  You went to town right the next morning

And Tia Ade was very gracious about doing your nails and getting them done too.

Have I mentioned that you are an animal lover? or that dogs are your favorite?
Seriously,  as soon as one comes into a room the rest of humanity is lost to you.

This is Calita and she is an angel. She does not mind you treating her like a baby.

I absolutely love getting hugged by you.

A couple of days later we did the tree at the Moreira Amados.

Tio Andrew was "Santa" and you were the helper

Here are a few pics for those of you who sent gifts and were not able to see her opening them.

Thank you Tere and Sarah for all the cool Rapunzel gear and the PJs, they fit great!
Tita I know you were there but still the pic of her face as she opened the Barbie pool is priceless.
Tio Xavi and Tia Mari the ballet gear was awesome and the puzzle is a weekly activity for Julis.
Tia Yola the dress fit perfectly!
Thank you all.

No visit to CR would be complete without a visit to friends.

Dancing with Cons o como tu dices haciendo Bailet. At the playground with Cons and Dieguito and watching a movie with Renata.

We welcomed the new year at the Abuelos apartment.
Grandma let you help her out with the Indian Rice which is a classic at their home.

It was a great evening and the view couldn't have been better - we got to enjoy all the fireworks from the west side of town.

A day later we were off to Bahia Ballena which quickly became one of my favorite spots in the country.
Awesome pool views

ocean views

mountain views

On this trip you must have been bitten by the adventure bug. You asked if you could take a surf lesson. You were on the board for about 40 minutes and were quite frustrated that you could not stand up.
We all went snorkeling and you were dying to try it, but felt you could not breath properly so after many attempts and again a major dosage of frustration we agree to teach you how to do it at the pool so next time we came you could snorkel.

Still all in all it was wonderful time.

On our way back to Quito you said:
Tu:  "Sabes mama yo creo que algun dia lo lograremos"
Yo:  "Que lograremos mija?"
Tu:  "Vivir en Costa Rica!"
Yo:  Internal ouch! "Claro que si mija algún día".

Until next time...

Christmas Family: Miami

You were born into a family of Nomads (at least on my branch of the family tree) and the implications of that are important, as you will see throughout your life.
One implication is that there is always travel involved when the holidays come around.  Our first stop this year was Miami. Where Tita & Tio Andrew were waiting with a blank tree for you to decorate.

Tita let you do it all by yourself :)

We visited Crandon Park where you saw jellyfish for the first time.

Titas office is right next to the Intercontinental Hotel, where we would pick her up almost everyday. We played in the park while we waited and she greeted us with fresh starbucks xmas coffee for me and some white and black cookies for you
(ok ok cookies for all!).

This year we took you to Santa's Enchanted Forest and it was a blast.
We rode a lot of cool rides including your first big water drop.

Feeding the pigeons and having lunch @ South Beach.

No visit would be complete without a pit stop at the Children's Museum.
Getting your groove on!

Answering the 911 call at the fire station and chatting up the pirate.
Till next time Miami and thank you Tita and Andrew for your all your kind hospitality :)
Kind hospitality aka: picking and dropping us up at the airport at unseemly hours, lending us your car, taking time off your busy schedule to be visit with us, been woken up early (even on the weekends) by noisy little feet and for continuing to warehouse all our stuff. Thank you sooooo much!
